Mindfulness and breathing for relaxation comes to FCC

The first Citizenship Day of the new school year saw the Year 11s learning new skills to help them deal with their forthcoming workloads. The programme gave the opportunity to develop mindfulness strategies through meditation which enabled them to clear their minds and become more focused on the present moment. This was coupled with 30 minutes of Pilates breathing techniques which helps relaxation and an improvement in physical fitness. Although a completely different experience to the normal timetable, many Year 11s appreciated the chance to relax their minds and bodies! Feedback included, "I feel really relaxed and sleepy now", "I will try some of those ideas at home" And "It's made me very hungry!".

Managing workloads, time and stress levels will be important skills for Year 11s to develop this year and we really appreciate the support that parents and other family members can provide. Students are encouraged to talk to their tutors about any concerns that they may have regarding the year ahead.
